Welcoming Speech

Selasa, 4 September 2012

Assalamu'alaikum wbt.

Grammar of the day.

Articles are used to show the quantities of the objects. Articles must be put before the objects. Articles could be classify into three categories.
  1. a = is used to show one object and the object must begin with consonance letters. I.e:- the word ball begin with consonance letter (b), so the article used is 'a ball'. Example: This is a ball.
  2. an = is used to show one object and the object must begin with vowel letters. i.e:- the word apple begin with vowel letter (a), so the article used is 'an apple'. Example: This is an apple.
  3. the = is used to show specific objects and also when the objects are mentioned again in another sentence.
Specific objects = usually are used when the objects are the subjects of the sentence. Example: The ball is kicked to the goal.  'the' is also used to show specific things, and also general things that exist only one in this world such as moon, sun.
Mentioned again = the objects are mention again in another sentence. Example: This is an apple. The apple is red.

Grammar of The Day

continuation of the previous post:-

Common Nouns are the general name of things in this world, For examples, table, chair, door, pen, pencils, etc.
However, Proper Nouns are the specific name of things. For example the pencils are produced by Stabilo, so we can make it a proper name, Stabilo Pencils.

Countable nouns are nouns that could be counted, Generally, all nouns could be counted but some of them which are in liquid form, small pieces form, could not be counted.
Uncountable nouns are things that could not be counted. As i explains earlier, most of them are in liquid, small pieces and other 'hard to count 'or abstract forms. For examples, water, oil, sugar, salt, soil, wood, money etc.

Countable and Uncountable Nouns have their own unique quantifiers. For example, many, much, a few, a little, some, any. Each quantifier is suitable only to countable or uncountable nouns, i.e: Countable Quantifiers are only for Countable nouns and vice versa, except for some and any.

Most nouns also changes their spelling when they are in plural form. How? Look at below explaination.
1. By adding "s" for examples apple - apples, basket - baskets, camera - cameras etc.
2. By adding "es" to nouns ending with -s,sh,ch,x and o.For examples, glass -glasses, gas-gases, brush-brushes, dish-dishes, bench-benches, tax-taxes, mango-mangoes, But not all of the nouns ending with these alphabets could be added "es" to them.
3. By changing the last letter "f" or "fe" to "ves". For examples, shelf-shelves, leaf-leaves, wife-wives, knife-knives, life-lives etc.
4. By changing the last letter "y" to "ies". For examples, fly-flies, lady-ladies, baby-babies, story-stories, city-cities, lorry-lorries etc.
5. Some of the nouns are called as Irregular Nouns. Irregular nouns change the vowels in the middle of the singular form to form the plural. For examples, foot-feet, man-men, woman-women, mouse-mice, goose-geese, tooth-teeth. etc
